Six Short-Term Goals for Improved Self-Care

A short-term goal is just a small task that allows you to achieve a larger goal. When you want something in life, it can be overwhelming and more challenging to focus only on long-term goals. Breaking them down allows you to stay on track and feel less intimidated and overwhelmed. In essence, short-term goals give you the momentum, courage, and confidence you need for a better life.

Here are six short-term goals to set to improve self-care:

Disconnect from Technology

Make it a priority to turn off your smartphone, television, and other technology around your home, work, or additional space. Instead, get outside and enjoy the weather and sounds of nature, meditate, or practice yoga and Pilates. You don’t need to stay connected to everyone all the time. Your mental, emotional, and physical health depends on it. It allows you to unwind, destress, and better understand yourself.

Set a Weekly Savings or “Rainy” Day Fund

Start saving now for those unexpected days of fun. Of course, you don’t need to set aside too much to enjoy new experiences either. However, setting aside money allows you to enjoy those random little moments life throws at you a little more without the stress or anxiety ruining it.

Grow Your Skills Through Professional Certificates or Classes

Look to your local community or library to see what professional certification classes you can add to your current profession or hobbies. More education and experience now will benefit you later.

Keep a Regular Sleep and Wake Schedule

Sticking to a schedule ensures you get the proper amount of sleep to function throughout your day fully. Set as many short-term goals as you like, but if you don’t get the right amount of sleep, it will be harder to perform and experience the results.

Develop and Achieve a New Habit Every Month

Finding new things to learn only adds more to your life and your abilities. It improves your decision-making skills, self-confidence, awareness, and overall outlook on life. So again, seeking and obtaining knowledge is powerful and beneficial to all areas of your life.

Step Out of Your Comfort Zone Weekly

Find something that allows you to step out of your comfort zone slightly. This does not mean you should face your fears head-on or do things that make you extremely uncomfortable to the point it feels dreadful. Instead, find baby steps into it or activities that feel a little nerve-wracking but essential to get to your long-term goals.

Find the short-term goals that can easily be added to your daily schedule. Be sure the ones you pick make sense to you and what you want to accomplish. Short-term goals should work together to achieve your ultimate goal in life. This way, you know that you are spending your time wisely for your life and ultimate well-being.
